Why old switchboards become a problem

It depends on your circuit count, wiring age and whether the meter box needs work. We give you a fixed written quote first.
If your board has ceramic fuses, no safety switch, keeps tripping, or is full with no room for another circuit, then yes. A safety switch (RCD) is what protects people from electric shock, and older fuse-only boards don't have one. We'll assess it honestly before recommending anything.
RCD protection is required on new and altered circuits under the wiring rules, and it's strongly recommended on every circuit in the home. When we upgrade your board we bring it to the current standard, which means proper RCD protection across your circuits, not one token safety switch.
Mostly, yes. A switchboard swap needs the power off for parts of the day, but we stage the work to keep the essentials running where we can and tell you in advance before any planned outage, so you're never caught out.
Usually not. A switchboard upgrade and a rewire are separate jobs, and plenty of homes just need the board modernised while the existing wiring is sound. If we spot wiring that genuinely needs attention we'll show you and explain it, rather than bundling in work you don't need.
If your network provider (Endeavour Energy across Macarthur, or Ausgrid in parts of Sydney) inspects your supply and finds a fault, they issue a defect notice with a deadline to fix it.
