Most EV installs are really a switchboard job
A home wall charger draws a heavy load for hours at a time, so the real work is checking your board has the spare capacity and the right protection to run it safely, then wiring a dedicated circuit out to the car. Get that right and the charger install is straightforward. Skip it and you get nuisance tripping or an unsafe setup.
That's also why online quotes swing from a few hundred dollars to several thousand. A charger next to a modern board is a quick job. The same charger on a house with a full ceramic-fuse board, on the far side of the house, is a board upgrade and a long cable run before the charger even goes up.
What actually drives your price:
7kW or three-phase, which suits your home?
Most Campbelltown homes run on single-phase power, and a single-phase 7kW charger suits them. Left plugged in overnight it adds well over 200km of range by morning, which is far more than the average daily drive, so the car is full every day.
Three-phase chargers up to 22kW charge much faster, but they only make sense if your home already has three-phase supply and you genuinely need the quick turnaround, like a two-EV household or a work vehicle that comes home half empty. We look at your supply and how you actually drive before recommending one over the other.

Which charger, and charging on your own solar
There's no single best charger, only the best one for your car, your home and your budget. We're a certified Tesla installer, so Wall Connectors go in to the manufacturer's spec, and a certified EVNEX installer for their units. We also fit the Zappi, OCULAR and other leading brands.
If you have rooftop solar the Zappi earns its keep, because it diverts your excess generation into the car during the day instead of exporting it for a few cents. Charging overnight instead? Smart chargers schedule themselves onto your off-peak tariff. We set the scheduling and solar diversion up with you at handover so you actually use what you paid for.

The cost varies with your setup. We quote your job fixed and upfront.
Three things: how much spare capacity your switchboard has and whether it needs upgrading, the distance of the cable run from the board to the car, and whether you go single-phase 7kW or three-phase. A charger next to the board is cheap. One across the house with a full board is not.
It has to be a licensed electrician, and ideally one certified by the charger brand. We're a certified Tesla and EVNEX installer, so the install meets both NSW electrical standards and the manufacturer's requirements, which protects your warranty. We're licensed for this work.

Electrical circuits are sized so a continuous load never exceeds 80% of the circuit's rating. A car charging for hours is a continuous load, so the circuit and the switchboard have to be rated with that headroom built in. It's one of the main reasons the switchboard check comes first.
No. Hardwiring an EV charger is licensed electrical work in NSW. Doing it yourself is illegal and unsafe, and it voids both your home insurance and the charger warranty. A compliant install also gets you the Certificate of Compliance that proves the job was done to standard.
Yes. You get a Certificate of Compliance for the electrical work as standard, so you have written proof the install was done to NSW standards by a licensed electrician.
Most EVs sold here carry a battery somewhere between about 50 and 80 kWh, and you rarely charge from empty. A 7kW single-phase charger puts back roughly 35 to 45 km of range an hour, so a normal day's driving tops up overnight while you sleep. Charging off-peak, or straight off your solar during the day, is where the running cost actually drops.
